Facial Recognition

What is Facial Recognition?

Facial recognition is a type of biometric software that uses advanced AI algorithms and machine learning to analyze facial features and create a unique digital map of an individual’s face. This technology can then compare the digital map with a database of known faces to identify and match individuals.

Facial recognition works by comparing a digital image or video of a person’s face to a database of known faces, looking for a match. The software will analyze the features of the face, such as the distance between the eyes, the shape of the nose, and the contours of the face, and compare them to other faces in the database. If the software finds a match, it will provide information about the individual, such as their name or any relevant data associated with their faceprint.

How does facial recognition work?

Facial recognition technology typically involves several steps that enable it to detect, recognize, and identify human faces through digital images or video. Here are the basic steps of facial recognition:

1. Face detection

The first step of facial recognition technology is to detect a face within an image or video frame. This process involves identifying the face’s key features, such as the eyes, nose, and mouth, and isolating them from the rest of the image.

2. Face analysis

Face analysis involves the use of artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze and measure various features of a person’s face, such as the distance between the eyes, the shape of the nose and mouth, and the contours of the face. The software then uses these measurements to create a unique digital map of the person’s face, known as a faceprint.

3. Feature extraction

In feature extraction, the image of a person’s face is used to identify and extract key facial features, such as the distance between the eyes, the shape of the nose and mouth, and the contours of the face. These features are then used to create a digital representation of the person’s face, which is compared to a database of known faces in order to identify a match.

4. Face recognition

In this, the extracted faceprint is compared to the database of known images, and if the face matches any database image, a successful determination is made.

What are the benefits of facial recognition?

A non-invasive method of verifying user identities, facial recognition has numerous advantages;

1. Improved security

Facial recognition can be used to enhance security by allowing authorized individuals access to secure areas, and by identifying and tracking individuals who may pose a threat.

2. Enhanced user experience

Facial recognition technology can be used to provide a seamless and more personalized user experience, for example, by allowing users to unlock their smartphones, make payments, or access online accounts without having to enter a password.

3. Contactless transactions

Facial recognition can be used to authenticate transactions without requiring physical contact thereby saving time and improving efficiency.

4. Fraud prevention

Facial recognition technology can be used to detect and prevent fraud in financial transactions, especially in the regulated financial services industry.

How does uqudo’s facial recognition work?

We leverage state-of-the-art biometric authentication to make your digital onboarding fast, efficient and more secure.

  1. Facial recognition quality check: In this, our facial recognition software checks that a real face is in front of the camera, by checking for open eyes, face covering and the position and orientation of the face to the camera.
  2. Liveness & face matching: Once it’s established that the person trying to validate themselves is a real face, uqudo’s software detects if the person in front of the camera is alive and real and compares the person’s selfie with their documents to confirm a facial match.

As a digital facial recognition solution provider, uqudo incorporates world-class AI technology, deep learning, and face detection solutions, to make your user onboarding process even smoother, get in touch with our team.
